PSYCHOTHERAPY

CONSULTATION AND ACCOMPANYING FOR CHILDREN AND THEIR PARENTS

SIMONE HABERMACHER PERNTHALER | lic. phil.

Federally recognized psychotherapist psychologist specializing in psychotherapy FSP

After obtaining a degree in psychology and ethnology from the University of Berne I worked at child and adolescent psychiatric centers in Eastern Switzerland for several years. This allowed me to deepen my knowledge of diagnostic procedures and it laid the foundations for my later therapeutic work. Subsequently I spent two years at the Education Counseling Center ‘Pinocchio’ in Zurich, further cementing my psychodynamic-systemic approach to outcome-oriented intervention. In addition to my psychotherapeutic work with children and their families in private practice, I also work since 2015 as a delegated psychotherapist in the practice of Dr. med. D. Weder in Rapperswil. Psychotherapies and counseling can take place in German or English.

I am married and mother of three children.

WHAT I OFFER

Offer and method of operation

Every child, whether toddler or at school age, will encounter numerous challenges during his or her development. The majority of such challenges can be solved readily with the help of parents, teachers or the pediatrician. However, some emotional distress may have a lasting effect on the child and the family, e.g., objectively difficult life situations (divorce, loss of a loved one, illnesses, school issues), uncontrollable, overpowering emotions (fears, outbursts of anger, impulsive behavior), or problematic relationships with peers or siblings. At such levels of psychological strain, it can be helpful to consult a specialist in order to seek individual solutions for the child and the family.

The most important principles of my professional approach are the establishment of a heedful, trusting relationship with the child, as well as my genuine interest in the perspective of the child and the family. The aim of my work is to initiate a joint process that should enable parents and children to better understand themselves and their counterparts, to gain new experiences and to strengthen existing resources. Depending on a child’s needs and age, my work may include more play oriented or talking therapeutic elements. In addition, regular interaction (discussions) with parents and the ‘reference system’ of other involved adults will also form part of the therapeutic procedure.

MY APPROACH

Roadmap from first consultation to therapy

After being contacted (by phone or e-mail) I shall invite the family, or the parents only, for an initial consultation. In this first meeting, the current situation will be clarified, and the goals and objectives of parent and child will be carved out. Subsequently, there will be three sessions with the child for diagnostic clarification, followed by a detailed discussion with the parents. This should result in establishing any further course of action, such as a parent counseling, psychotherapy for the child only, or family therapy. The overall goal of my activities will be to initiate and accompany the desired change and development.

COSTS

Tariffs and cost assumptions

The tariff for a consultation (50 min) is CHF 160.-. Telephone calls, e-mails and written reports are charged at the same rate according to actual expenditure of time. Scheduled consultations that are not cancelled on time (at least 24 hours in advance) will be invoiced. Currently, basic health insurance will not cover or contribute to therapy costs unless your child has supplementary insurance for psychotherapy. Inquire in advance about the modalities of your insurance model. If there has been prior involvement of the IV (‘Invalidenversicherung’, disability insurance), therapy costs can be settled with IV if approved in advance. I am happy to discuss financing options with the parents.
